Hydroseeding is a fast, accurate way to seed large, difficult or exposed areas. A carefully blended slurry of seed, mulch, water, nutrients and soil conditioners is sprayed directly onto prepared ground using specialist hydroseeding equipment. Once applied, the mulch layer helps lock the seed in place, retain moisture and protect the surface from rainfall and runoff while germination begins.

Every site is different, so BioSeed Ltd can tailor the hydroseeding mix to suit the soil type, nutrient requirement, exposure, habitat objective and desired finish. This may include low-nutrient mixes for wildflower establishment, chalk grassland and biodiversity-led schemes, or higher-nutrient mixes for municipal grass, amenity areas, verges and functional landscaping.

For sites where traditional broadcast seeding, drilling or turfing would be slow, expensive or impractical — such as steep banks, embankments, riverbanks, attenuation areas, large open ground or terrain with poor access — hydroseeding is usually the most cost-effective solution.

BioSeed Ltd can accommodate different seed and nutrient requirements depending on the project. For habitat creation and biodiversity schemes, this may involve nutrient-poor growing mediums and specialist seed mixes, such as chalk flower, native grassland or wildflower mixes.

For amenity, municipal or functional grass areas, a higher-nutrient medium and hard-wearing grass seed mix may be more appropriate to support faster establishment, stronger cover and long-term usability.

This flexible approach means the hydroseeding application can be matched to the site’s intended purpose, rather than applying a standard mix to every project.

In favourable conditions you can expect visible germination within 7–14 days and full establishment within 4–8 weeks, depending on the season, seed mix, soil and weather. Hydroseeding accelerates this versus broadcast seeding because the mulch retains moisture and protects the seed.

Yes — slopes and embankments are one of the strongest use cases. The mulch layer binds seed to the soil, reducing wash-off, and the establishing root system stabilises the surface against erosion. We tailor the mix and application rate to the gradient and exposure.

Hydroseeding is typically faster to apply over large areas, more cost-effective per square metre than turf, and reaches places drilling or broadcast seeding cannot. Turf gives instant cover but at much higher cost; broadcast seed is cheap but unreliable on slopes and exposed ground.
